The higher the quality of the recording, the more 'space' it will need on the Hard Disk or DVD disc. The purpose of these modes is to give you flexibility in your recording - whether it's quality or quanity (in terms of number of hours) you're looking for.

These following recording modes come as standard on our DVD Recorders:

XP: Fine: The highest quality setting, giving about 1 hour of recording time on a DVD disc.
SP (Standard Play): Default quality, sufficient for most applications, giving about 2 hours of recording time on a DVD.
LP (Long Play): Slightly lower video quality, but doubles the recording time on a DVD to around 4 hours.
EP (Extended Play): Use when optimal recording time is most important; EP gives you around 6 hours of recording time on a DVD disc.
SLP (Super Long Play): Use when maximum recording time is most important; SLP gives you around 8 hours of recording time on a DVD disc.

  • VPS/PDC Time Adjustment Yes/Yes

Our DVD Recorders are compatible with VPS (Video Programming System) and PDC (Programme Delivery Control) systems.

VPS and PDC systems are used by many analogue TV stations to ensure that a timer recording catches the whole programme even when the programme is not running to schedule.

This means that if you input the announced time and date of the programme that you want to record, and that programme happens to run late, for example, VPS and PDC will automatically correct the timed recording on your recorder.

Variable Bit Rate Recording means that the the DVD Recorder detects and records the source in variable bits.

  • Rate Conversion Copy Yes (HDD to DVD, DVD to HDD)

  • Disc Backup Yes

This feature offers a convenient way to backup important material from one DVD to another. The material is first copied from the DVD disc to the HDD, then on to a second DVD disc. While the contents of the original disc are temporarily stored in the HDD, they cannot be played nor edited. All contents and information from the original DVD disc are backed up without any quality loss.

During DVD disc backup, recording to the HDD or playback of other content from the HDD is possible.

Note: This feature only works with finalised DVD-R-DVD-RW discs recorded in 'Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)'.
  • Recovery Recording Yes

When a timer recording is set to use DVD but the disc loaded at the time of the recording is unrecordable, the program will automatically be recorded to the Hard Disk Drive.
  • HDD Sleep Mode Yes

HDD Sleep Mode allows you to essentially turn the hard disk off while you're watching a DVD or listening to a CD, to secure a true noise-less environment.

You'll notice that most hard disk drives make a small noise whilst running. If you're a true audiophile and want to focus all your attention on what's playing without interference, this feature will allow you to do 'put the HDD to sleep', so no additional noise is created.
